Nature-Inspired Art by Becky O’Keefe: Original watercolors from Schoodic Woods.
My Artwork, whether a garden, painting, wreath or centerpiece, reflects my love and respect for nature. The multitude of colors, shapes and textures found in nature are a constant inspiration. I am drawn to the places that move me in a quiet, intimate way. There is nothing I love more than to sit for hours painting, say in a bog or on a lichen covered trail. I have begun painting the beauty I see below the surface of the water. My husband and I spend many hours snorkeling the pristine ponds and lakes here in Downeast Maine. I am working on a series entitled “water lilies from below.”
Here on the Schoodic Peninsula, in the fall of 2015, we were given a wonderful gift: Schoodic Woods. The new trails and carriage roads they created allowed us to move deeper into this quietly beautiful peninsula. As I explored these trails throughout the fall, I was struck by how much the change of season altered what I saw. As a way to celebrate the Acadia Centennial, I pledged to paint one painting a month from the new trails of Schoodic Woods, following the seasons. I am making photo notecards from the original paintings as well. All my work can be seen at Artisans and Antiques, 357 Main St, Winter Harbor, Maine
