The Argosy Gallery has been recognized for over 20 years as one of the most prominent venues presenting the renowned fine art tradition of the Acadia area. It is noted for its nationally acclaimed shows highlighting prominent living artists from around the country who paint in this area.
Our contributions to the Acadia National Park Centennial celebration will be threefold. A major two-person show will feature a two-day opening at the Bar Harbor Inn and continue in the gallery for the season. It will feature the work of Steven Hileman, at forty, and Robert Hagberg, at sixty-five, both recognized nationally as leading Acadia painters.
A second project will be a special exhibition of twenty miniature Acadia paintings by guest artist Michael Chesley Johnson. He has presented comparable shows in other national parks, most recently for the 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt/Campobello International Park jointly administered by the United States and Canada.
Our third project will be the continued sale of Fresco Fine Art Publication’s award-winning book Art of the National Parks. Originally published in the summer of 2013, simultaneously with major shows across the country including one on Mount Desert Island hosted by this gallery, the book has enjoyed major critical success. It has been reprinted in time for several National Park milestones including Acadia’s Centennial and that of the Park Service itself. This landmark volume celebrates Acadia National Park as one of the premier jewels of the entire National Park System.
