MAM is a professional membership organization of approximately 300 collecting institutions and museum/archives professionals in Maine. Our mission is to actively stimulate the flow of knowledge and support among organizations and individuals in Maine who identify, collect, interpret, and/or provide access to materials relating to history, living collections, and culture, in order to strengthen and promote all collecting institutions in Maine.
The Association of Maine Archives and Museums (MAM) is pleased to support the efforts of the Acadia National Park Centennial and participate as a partner in the project. MAM’s mission to support and promote Maine’s collecting institutions through networking, outreach, advocacy, and education requires us to maintain a strong network of museums, archives, historical societies, libraries and historic sites in the state—including a database of some 1,000 organizations recently created as part of a statewide census. As a result, we are uniquely positioned to share information about the Acadia National Park Centennial through our quarterly newsletter (print and online), mass mailings, social media networks, and more. Through our members, we can help to engage the project with a statewide community of institutional, individual, family, and corporate collectors who care for and preserve the stories, traditions and cultural heritage this commemoration seeks to promote.
We anticipate that many of our member institutions have applied or already are partners in this endeavor. Likewise, these organizations will be creating events, exhibits and programming to mark the centennial event. MAM is committed to promoting those events and activities as well as the broader calendar of events surrounding the commemoration. Our many workshops, networking events and annual conference provide additional opportunities to get the word out about the Acadia National Park Centennial to a broad audience of professionals working in the field of cultural tourism.
