The mission of Penobscot Theatre Company is to produce high-quality, professional theatre works and programs that inspire the imagination and cultivate a lifelong passion for the art form. Our primary work involves the production of professionally crafted plays and musicals, new and classic, staged at our historic home, the Bangor Opera House. In recent years, the company has produced six to seven mainstage shows, each running for three to four consecutive weeks, from September through June. We also offer professional training and exposure to the art through year-round educational programs for all ages and experience levels.
Penobscot Theatre Company is producing a new play in partnership with The Penobscot Nation, Transformer Tales: Stories of the Dawnland, which will celebrate our past and inspire our future. Through poems, stories, music and Penobscot language, young performers will bring to life traditional tales of the Wabanaki, weaving past, present and future, and honoring the earth, the skies, the rivers and the people of the Dawnland. Performances will be August 11 at 7:00 pm on Indian Island; August 12-13 at 7:00 pm at the Bangor Opera House; and Sunday, August 14, at 3:00 pm at Blackwoods Amphitheater in Acadia National Park.
