Over 30 years ago, a group of local artists came together to create Island Artisans, purchasing our 99 Main St. Bar Harbor location to showcase fine Maine crafts. Featuring Bar Harbor’s most complete selection of quality arts and crafts by over 150 of Maine’s leading artisans, our unique collection can be seen in two galleries, located in Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. We invite you to visit our galleries on your next trip to Mount Desert Island. Maine has a long tradition of artisans inspired by the beauty of the local landscape. Our artists work in many media, including weaving, spinning, fiberarts, pottery, baskets, embossed paper, wood, stone, jewelry, stained glass, and glassblowing.
Join us for an open house 10am–4pm, on July 21 in our Bar Harbor gallery at 99 Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor, or on August 4 at our Northeast Harbor gallery at 119 Main Street. Meet one of the many artists we represent who makes work that is directly inspired by Acadia National Park. You may learn about pottery that records the mountain vistas, embossed paper rendering the animal inhabitants of MDI, glass sculpture showing the myriad creatures that live in the tide-pools found at the shores and at Anemone Cave, weavers whose work looks like a sunset over Sargent Mountain in spring, summer or autumn, baskets that reflect the history and cultures of Acadia’s Native people, or whimsical sculpture inspired by the joy of living in a nature rich area neighboring Acadia National Park.
