The Hub of Bar Harbor is part of the Maine Downtown Center, which is rooted nationally in the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The mission of the Hub of Bar Harbor is to advance efforts to develop the downtown area into a thriving, energetic, commercial, social and entertainment destination supporting the informing principle of Bar Harbor as a vibrant, year-round community where residents live, work, and serve.
Each year the Maine Downtown Center as part of the Maine Development Foundation holds an annual conference, which will take place in Bar Harbor on May 13, 2016. Since this event will take place in Bar Harbor during the Acadia Centennial, the focus will be on the town as a gateway community, centennial thinking by emphasizing the present with an eye for the future, and the relationship the town has with the national park system–particularly a park as unique as Acadia. The goal of this conference is to collaborate with other communities, form new partnerships, learn from other regions, and highlight Bar Harbor. It will feature a keynote speaker, in addition to breakout sessions focused upon different aspects tied to the Maine Street program, and will include dynamic presentations from local experts as well as those across the state.
