Built in 1817, commonly known as the Tisdale house, the historic Ellsworth Public Library has served the City of Ellsworth since 1897 when it was gifted to the City of Ellsworth by George Nixon Black with condition that it “…shall be always used for a public library.”
We continue to serve Ellsworth, Hancock County, and beyond with a vast array of information, resources, services, history, and genealogy. Our educational programs for youth and adults are enjoyed by many. We have recently added many new items that may be borrowed, including DVD players, a telescope, microscope, educational games, and more.
We will be offering multiple programs featuring various aspects of Acadia National Park throughout the year. These include One Park One Read, history, ranger programs, photography, wildlife, and art. Please check the calendar for listings as we continue to confirm events.
