ART on West is proud to announce that it will celebrate Acadia’s 100th year all summer long. Each of the gallery’s First Friday ART Walks will celebrate the centennial and the fine artists who discover inspiration at one of America’s favorite destinations.
ART on West opens its First Friday ART Walk season with watercolorist Ivan Rasmussen showing his Acadia National Park Centennial painting “Summer Visitor” in a limited edition of fine art prints to benefit Friends of Acadia. Meet the long time Bar Harbor resident and see his most recent Acadia work.
Check the Centennial calendar each First Friday for current information.
ART on West will sponsor a number of workshops that are either free or requesting a donation to Friends of Acadia. All workshop materials will be supplied by the gallery. Check the Centennial calendar or call the gallery for information. Workshops include valentine cards, paper ornaments, paste papers, origami wet folding…all conducted with Acadia themes and love!
Celebrating the Acadia night sky during the Acadia Night Sky Festival, the gallery will hold a workshop in the making of three dimensional paper stars. Descriptions of how to fold a three dimensional Froebel star date back to at least the 19th century in Germany. The star, made of four strips of paper, is much like origami in that it uses no glue. However, the star also incorporates weaving and can be made in sizes suitable for everything from earrings to ornaments. Bar Harbor paper artist Sherry Rasmussen will teach the German Star at the gallery. The workshop will be held 9 – 10:30 am on a date to be announced during the 2016 Acadia Night Sky Festival. There is a suggested donation of $10 to support Acadia Night Sky Festival. The workshop is limited to 10 people over the age of 12.
