The mission of the Abbe Museum is to inspire new learning about the Wabanaki Nations with every visit.
In 2016, the Abbe Museum will open to the public an entirely new exhibit experience. After extensive visitor studies and interpretive planning, we have concluded that there is considerable content about the Wabanaki and the Abbe Museum that is not being delivered through a regularly changing exhibit program. To better meet the needs of our visitors and to more effectively communicate our mission and purpose, we will open a new permanent exhibition, outlining more than 12,000 years of Native history in Maine. The exhibit will also include a brief history of the museum’s founding and its close relationship to the founding of Acadia National Park.
