Join Penobscot Theatre Company in unpacking a project that has been in the works for the past year: Transformer Tales: Stories of the Dawnland is a new play inspired in part by the Park’s Centennial Celebration. It will be performed in Bangor, on Indian Island, and at Blackwoods Amphitheater in Acadia in August, but now is the time to set the stage!
“The transformer tales revolve around Gluskape, a culture hero of the Wabanaki,” explained Director of Education Amy Roeder, who developed the script in collaboration with Penobscot storytellers, playwrights, linguists and scholars. “We are eager to introduce the project to the full community and to start a broad-based conversation around the value of theatre in preserving cultural traditions and inspiring positive change.”
Facilitating the discussion along with the theatre’s artistic and education leaders will be native playwrights William S. Yellowrobe and Donna Loring, and other community leaders.Location: Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor
