Date: Tuesday Feb 02, 2016
Time: 5:30 p.m. -
As part of Southwest Harbor Public Library’s One Park – One Read program for the Acadia National Park Centennial, children’s librarian and storyteller Amanda Crafts will lead a book discussion about Small as an Elephant by children’s author Jennifer Richard Jacobson.
Small as an Elephant tells the story of an eleven-year-old boy who has been abandoned by his mother while camping in Acadia National Park. This is not the first time this has happened but it is the first time it has happened in such a wide open wild place. Jack searches the places they planned to visit with only a small plastic elephant for company. Will he find her? Will he forgive her? Small as an Elephant is beautifully written and received star reviews from Booklist and Newsday and was a Parent’s Choice Gold Award winner. The book is geared for children age 10 and up. Light refreshments will be served.
Many know Amanda through her extensive library work. She can be found at Bass Harbor Memorial Library’s circulation desk, story times at Jesup Memorial Library, and of course here at Southwest Harbor Public Library in many roles.
Copies of Small as an Elephant can be borrowed from the library or purchased at cost.Location: Southwest Harbor Public Library
