Allen Workman, author of Schoodic Point: History on the Edge of Acadia National Park will kick off the first of the Ellsworth Public Library’s Acadia National Park Centennial programs for the 2016 year. His presentation will include the revolution of Schoodic’s landscape, history, and transition into Acadia National Park and four centuries of the region’s human ecology as it shifted from logging, farming, and fishing to become an early nature preserve and more. He will emphasize his newly unearthed material on how Dorr and others brought the land into the park starting in 1922, and how a decade later he and Rockefeller developed it to become the park as we know it.
This presentation is sponsored in part by the Gouldsboro Historical Society, of which Allen is Secretary.Location: Ellsworth Public Library
