Schoodic Peninsula Bike Ride

Date: Saturday Jul 09, 2016

Come celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Acadia National Park by biking on the quieter, mainland unit of the park. This 30-mile ride (with 12 & 25-mile options) will follow the Schoodic National Scenic Byway, including the Schoodic Loop road — truly one of the most scenic bike routes in the State of Maine. We will ride at a moderate 10-12 mph pace with periodic stops for scenery and points of interest. This ride will also feature the new additions to this mainland portion of ANP – the new Schoodic Woods campground with 7 miles of carriage roads, the Schoodic Institute and the Schoodic Marine Center. We will pass by the largest lobster processing plant in Maine and you can get your picture taken with the large lobsterman statue as well as many other stone sculptures along the route. We will even ride out onto a raised coastal bog.

You can drive to the ride starting point in Winter Harbor or take the ferry from Bar Harbor (special AMC member rate). We plan a late morning start, which allows for a doable day-trip from southern Maine. Alternatively, AMC has a group campsite for Friday & Saturday night.

Registration is required for this activity – please contact the leader directly to register and for camping details. Space is limited to 14 participants.
