Rug hooking has long been a traditional craft of Downeast Maine. Years ago, besides making rugs for their own homes, local women could make a little extra money by selling their rugs. Many of these rugs were not only functional, but were works of art in themselves.
Today, there are many rug hookers in Hancock County, carrying on this traditional craft, designing and hooking beautiful rugs. For this exhibit, they have created work that displays their connection to and feelings about
Acadia National Park. We look forward to sharing our Impressions of Acadia during this centennial year of the park.
